Oslo: temporary diesel restrictions
Oslo can announce a temporary diesel ban during severe air pollution. This is an emergency measure; road tolls are a separate scheme whose rates may depend on vehicle characteristics.

Oslo has no fixed permanent zone of this type. Emergency restrictions depend on the current city decision; only a city marker is shown.
Zone details
Area covered
When announced, the restriction applies to municipal roads including Ring 2 and part of Ring 1. Check the notice for national roads and expressly permitted access routes.
When a restriction applies
The city can announce a ban when pollution is high or forecast to be high. It is not an automatic winter ban or a fixed year-round low-emission zone.
Before arriving, check Oslo’s current notice for dates, coverage and exemptions. A notice from a previous pollution episode does not establish current conditions.
Diesel vehicles and approach roads
An active ban also applies to foreign vehicles. Euro 6 alone is not a general exemption: the notice and any documented entitlement govern.
Establish whether the road is municipal or national and which routes are permitted. A navigation suggestion or accommodation booking does not replace local rules.
Tolls and emissions data
Foreign vehicles also pay Norwegian road tolls. AutoPASS describes accounts with a provider and tag, or registration with Epass24 without a tag. Correct emissions data may affect the rate.
Toll registration does not authorise travel on a road subject to an emergency diesel ban. There is no universal Norwegian emissions sticker for this scheme.
